Meet Our Staff
Vince Miller, Boys Team Head Coach
Vince Miller, who has a BA degree in Child Development, is one of the founding members of WCOGA. He has been designated Northern California Boys Gymnastics Association (NCBGA) coach of the year for the last two years and numerous times since 1990. In his coaching career, he has coached numerous successful gymnasts, including national event and all-around champions. His graduates have also gone on to receive college scholarships in gymnastics, most recently at Stanford University. Miller also has an extensive judging experience. Vince is the past chairman of the NCBGA. Vince Miller who has produced over 100 state champions, 56 regional champions, and national champions. He is regarded as one of the best coaches in the country and currently serves as a Junior National Olympic Coach. He has been awarded Northern California Coach of the Year for the following years: 1990, 1993, 1995, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Many of his athletes have been awarded scholarships to some of the best collegiate teams in the country. This year, our past graduate Steve Spencer was the 2009 NCAA silver medalist on pommel horse assisting Ohio State in its’ NCAA rankings. In addition, three of our graduating seniors earned scholarships to the following schools for entrance Fall of 2009: Mark Ringle: University of Nebraska Men’s Team (fall 2009); John Monteclaro: UC Berkeley Men’s Team (fall 2009); Christian Monteclaro: UC Berkeley Men’s Team (fall 2009); Greg Ter-Zakhariants: current Stanford Men’s Team (scholarship 2004).  Christopher Turner, who has trained with Vince the past ten years, placed 10th in the country at nationals this year (2009). He is one of 34 gymnasts throughout the county to advance to the Visa Championships which will take place in Houston, Texas this August. Chris is a former National Team Member who has been advertised on the home page of the Stanford Open, one of the largest men’s meets in the country, as one of the best gymnasts in the country and a coming attraction to this event.

Charlene Chen, Girls Team Head Coach
Charlene Chen, a former member of the China's Women’s National Team, was awarded the “Coaching Certificate of Honor” by the Chinese Sports Committee for her role in producing a number of championship athletes. In her previous position at North Shore Gymnastics, she choreographed floor and beam routines.  Chen has had privileges at the Olympic Training Center, and has produced many state and regional champions as well as United States National Team Members.  At Bela Karolyis Gymnastics Ranch in Houston, she trained several gymnasts to qualify for TOPS and Elite programs.  Finally, she has coached several Levels 9 and 10 to become national beam champions.  Finally, she has coached several senior gymnasts to qualify for scholarships at nationally recognized universities.

Joshua Ruby, Recreational Program Director
Joshua began his coaching career under Steve Rybacki (Chairman for the International Gymnastics Committee, Member of the Olympic Selection Committee ) and had the opportunity to work with many Elite athletes some including Jeanine Ruby, Jamie Dantzscher, Vanessa Atler, and Tabitha Yim all National Champions and 2 Olympic Competitors one being his younger sister. From there he moved to Northern California to start a Men’s Competitive Program which quickly became one of the Top Competitors in the Region. Josh has had over 40 State Champions, many Regional Champions, and National Competitors all the way from level 4-10. Josh is a certified EMT, and also a member of the NCGJA (Northern California Gymnastics Judging Association) and judges level 4-10. When he is not coaching he is running his own business, Nemesis GraphiX doing Screen Printing and Embroidery.

Laurie Siebel, General Manager
Laurie Siebel grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She attended the University of Minnesota where she obtained her BA degree in criminology. She has 12 years experience as a job training counselor, working as a manager for DuPage County Health and Human Services, and then 10 years with the State of Illinois where she was Co-Director of the Upward Mobility Program. Laurie has two children who both train at West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy.  Christopher has been two time state and regional champion for level 5 and 8, and is currently a 2009 National Development Team member finishing 13th in the country.  Anna is in fourth grade and is training level 6 this year.  Laurie loves her job as it keeps her with her children while they train in their sport.

Doreen Aubel, Girls Pre-Team Instructor

Darrell Boykins, Girls Team Instructor
Darrell comes to us with 25 years of coaching competitive teams. He has produced National Team Members and had 15 collegiate scholarships. You may have watched his girls that came with him. Two of his team members are already being watched by Stanford, UCLA, and Washington, to name a few. Darrell ran one of the most successful programs at Berkeley for 20 years.

Vasiliy Dobrynin, Boys Team and Recreational Gymnastics Instructor
Vasiliy comes to us with 33 years of coaching experience. He competed for the Soviet Union. He has produced state and regional champions. He has coached primarily boy’s competitive teams, but has also coached girl’s competitive optional teams as well. He will be working with our boy’s competitive teams along with recreational classes.

Hilary Oliver, Girls Team Instructor
Hillary comes to us to also work with our girl’s competitive team. She is also the past assistant coach to UC Davis Women’s Gymnastics team and team coordinator.

Karlai Pelizzari, Recreational Gymnastics Instructor
Karlai has over 23 years of teaching preschool and recreational gymnastics. Previously, she taught at Diablo Gymnastics for 10 years. She is the former owner of the first gymnastics facility in Pleasanton just on Quarry Lane which would later become WCOGA through several ownership changes. She is wonderful with children and again has develops that will challenge their gross motor development along with a combination of music and hand-eye coordination games.

Kat Sgamba, Girls Team Instructor
Kat comes to us with 40 years of coaching experience. She is also a top ranked judge for women’s gymnastics in the country. She judges the NCAA meets along with collegiate meets throughout the country. She is also working with our girl’s competitive team. She is responsible for more than 25 college scholarships.

Ashley Spooner, Recreational Gymnastics Instructor
Ashley has been at WCOGA since September 2008 and currently coaches girls’ recreational classes, pre-team, and competitive team. She has been involved in gymnastics since she was 3 years old, competing through level 7 and coaching the past eight years. Ashley received her BS in Ecology and a BA in Psychology, both at UCSD. In her free time, she enjoys doing ballet and volunteering at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum and Oakland Zoo.
